Cafe' Holiday Expo - Prayers and Promises!

It's Cafe' Holiday Expo time, and I'm excited to be participating! Click here to visit The Internet Cafe's holiday expo and see all the wonderful giveaways you can try for!

The Christmas season is a time of joy and excitement and praise, but, for many of us, it is also a time of hecticness (LOL yes, I'm allowed to make up words. I'm a WRITER, after all!). It's easy to get caught up in the craziness of the season and forget where our focus should be.

SOOO, as my little contribution to the holiday expo, I'm giving away a wonderful little book with lots of little nuggets (nice and short, so you can read them quick in the midst of your busy schedule) for women.

With topics ranging from abundance to worship, and everything in between, this 159-page treasury of Bible verses, prayers, quotations, and essays for women will encourage you, exhort you, and bless you.

And all you have to do to be entered is reply to this post with a favorite prayer or promise from the Bible (along with your email address if you don't have a blog). You have until NEXT Thursday, December 11 at midnight. I will then pick a name randomly from all the responses I receive. The winner (along with the other Holiday Expo winners) will be announced at The Internet Cafe AND through an email from me. And, yeah - I WILL ship overseas!

So, what is your favorite prayer or promise from God's Word? Share it below, and may you ALL be blessed! And don't forget to stop by The Internet Cafe' for more chances to participate in the Holiday Expo!

If you're curious, my favorite promise of the Bible is from the book of Philippians, and also happens to be part of one of my favorite verses of the Bible.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
Oh - and p.s. - I'm having ANOTHER giveaway coming up, to celebrate my 100th post (this one happens to be my 98th - so QUITE soon). This one will be a bit more involved on your part than the Cafe' one. I'm only giving you one hint: think a week and a half of quiet time.

Hope to see your response at the bottom - AND you back here for my other contest/celebration/giveaway! God bless!

  2. This book would be a wonderful present!!

My favorite promise: Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. AND SURELY I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, TO THE VERY END OF THE AGE." Matthew 28: 18-20

  3. My favorite scripture for the past 14 months has been Psalm 91. The first two verses are He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.

The past 14 months have been difficult with my son having viral meningits that has lead to epilepsy and many side effects from medication and being in ICU for so long. Also my father died at the end of October. I say all that to say I am blessed because before this started I had a relationship with God. I am blessed because even though it has been tough, I am closer to God today than 14 months ago. I am blessed because God is going to use this to bring someone who is not a christian to being a christian and grow the kingdom. Yes, I am blessed.

Thanks for a chance to win and have a great day.

  4. Joanne....I tried a comment once..says it didn't go in...I'm trying again. My favorite promise is in Isaiah 59:9-10, "Then when you call, the Lord will answer.
‘Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply.

“Remove the heavy yoke of oppression.
Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors!
    10 Feed the hungry,
    and help those in trouble.
Then your light will shine out from the darkness,
and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.

  6. There are so many, but here are two of my absolute favorites. Philippians 4:13 "I can do everything through him who gives me strength."

One that I need to remind my self of often is Philippians 4:6 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."

    Merry Christmas!

  7. I love, love, love books, too.

My favorite verse during this precious season is.....

For God so loved the world so much that He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

    Pick me!

  9. This is GREAT!!!! Hmmmmmm. It is sooooo difficult to choice one verse. I have like umpteen hundred favorites! And it depends on whether I'm up or down or somewhere in-between.

One that I quote a lot to myself and others is this one:

"The One who calls you is faithful, and HE will do it."
1 Thessalonians 5:24 (NIV, emphasis mine)

I also like the one I picked for my blog:
"The Lord is my strength and my song. He has become my salvation."
    Psalm 118:14

I'll be back in a few days for your 100th!!!

  10. I was first drawn to Philippians 4:6 in the concordance of a translation that uses the word worry instead of anxious. Worry usually fits my frame of mind more than anxious (I think of anxious in more of a positive way--I am so anxious for...) When I saw the word worry in this concordance I was immediately drawn to a verse that would speak to my heavy stress and worry.

  12. Nice give away, I love books like this!!

    My favorite scripture is --

Because of the Lord's great love
    we are not consumed,
    for his compassions never fail,
    They are new very morning;
    great is your faithfulness.

    Lamentations 3:21-23

How I wish I could have new compassions every morning!!

  13. Ahh, Jo! Love this chance to share one of my favs:

    Here's a favorite portion of Psalm 139:

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
    If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me,your right hand will hold me fast.

  16. Hi! Looks like a great book. My favorite assurance now-a-days is Romans 8:38,39
"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

  17. Mine is the same as Firefly...

Jeremiah 33:3 - Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things that you do not know.

Its been my life verse since I was eight and my camp counselor shared it with me when I was crying about my Dad being an alcoholic. He quit drinking about 5 years ago and became a Christian about 2 years ago.

  18. I used to have this painted around the top of our bedroom walls:
    Psalm 24:7
One thing I ask of the LORD,
    this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to seek him in his temple.

    Amen.

  21. This is great. The book looks like it would be a wonderful addition to my library.

One of my favorite promises from the Word of God is found in Proverbs 2: 6 & 7: For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright, He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless.

  24. Joanne,

I love your blog. My favorite promise at this time is Deut 1:31 and in this wilderness where you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way you went until you came to this places.

  27. Looks like a great book!! One of my favorite verses that I have clung to many times over the years is "O our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You." II Chron.20:12

I know I may be surrounded but if I keep my eyes on Him I can get through it all.

  28. This is a verse that is especially meaningful to me lately:
Romans 12:1 "So here's what I want you to do, God helping you. Take your everyday, ordinary life - your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life - and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him." (The message)

  29. Joanne, What a blessing your blog and your give-a-way are. I would love to be entered in the give-a-way! My favorite promise: "And the days of your mourning shall come to an end." Isaiah 60:20 a very special verse for me as I received it first on the third anniversary of my son's death as I read Isaiah 60 in my quiet time at Breakfast. Then the next morning I was re-reading it and there it was again - I just wept with joy for the release I felt through that verse on that weekend that represented so much pain in my life.

    Blessings and thanks for asking.

  30. Sounds like a delightful book. I host the "In Other Words" which we share and write on Christian quotes - this would be perfect.

My favorite Bible verse is "His mercies are new every morning" which gives me such hope to start over every day.

I am having a giveaway too! I just got a late start on this! :)

  32. I like Psalm 13. David spends several verses whining about being forsaken. But then in the last couple of verses he says, "But I trust in your unfailing love..and sing songs in the night." It reminds me that no matter what is going on, it's okay to tell God how I'm feeling, but in the end, my job is to trust Him and sing songs in the night.

  33. "Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit they way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass." What amazing promises from the Lord. Thanks for the giveaway. Merry Christmas.

  34. My VERY favorite promise from the Bible:

"I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes--I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!" Job 19:25-27

Yes, how my heart YEARNS for that day!!!!!!!
