Nothing Else Needed: Monday Manna

I'm hosting Monday Manna this week :)

The purpose of Monday Manna to get together and get to know Christ more through His Word. Each Thursday, a Bible verse to ponder will be posted, either here or at my dear friend Vonnie's blog, My Back Door. The following Monday, those participating will post their thoughts on the verse at their own blogs and link up at the bottom of the post in the Linky gadget. The main purpose is to chew on the same Scripture and learn from one another.

Here's this week' verse:

As most of you know, I was raised in the Jewish faith and came to Christ in my 30s. The first 20+ years of my life, the only knowledge I had of God was from the Old Testament. I thought there was nothing else I needed to read to know the Lord. It was all there - Genesis to Malachi. Nothing else needed.

And you know what? In a way, I was right.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people came to Christ back in the time before there was a New Testament. The only Bible they had to read was the Jewish scriptures. Matthew's chapters on the Beatitudes? Nope. Paul's conversion on the Damascus Road? No record of it. Hebrews' hall of faith? Nowhere to be found. John 3:16? Never heard of it.

Everything you need to know to become a Christian is in the first 39 books of the Bible.

I "got saved" in Isaiah 53 (the passage about the suffering servant). Old Testament prophecies about Christ's coming appear as early as Genesis 3:15, and all the way through to Malachi 3. Christ is in every book of the Bible--you just have to look for it.
