Finds for Fridays is my way of sharing some of the wonderful blogs posts I read each week. I am currently following close to 100 blogs and at least scan them as much as I can. Each week, I'll note and "set aside" some posts that especially speak to me for whatever reason. And each Friday that I am able, I'll share them with you. I hope you'll stop by and read the posts, and maybe even follow the blogs if you aren't already. A win-win, right?
And here they are!
Why Do We Tell Stories? by Rachelle Gardner at her blog ( about our need, as humans, for stories)
When Desperation Takes Over by Jennifer Slattery at The Christian Pulse (about our need for God and His provision)
Talker's Block by Seth Godin at his blog (about improving your writing)
4 Components of a Compelling Elevator Pitch by Michael Hyatt at his blog (about just what the title says)
There's Always a Squeegee When You Need It by Pat Guy at Pat's Porch (about enjoying God's gifts)
Straw or Hay...What's the Difference? by Joy Bach at Life Moments (about the similarities - and the implication)
He's Not The God Who Watches by Mary Hampton at Internet Cafe Devotions (about watching vs. seeing)
I know my list is a TOUCH longer than usual - but folks were in RARE form this week! Great stuff - enjoy - and follow!

Welcome to week NINETEEN of my dear, dear friend Patty Wysong's From A 2 Z 4 U and me. We're working through the alphabet - one letter each Tuesday. No rules, other than your post has to relate to the letter of the week. Link up at Ordinary Lives and check out everyone else's post. Click on the graphic above for more details, and stop by Patty's blog to link up.Being a girl in my family is...um...a bit of an anomaly. My father had one brother - no sisters. My mom had one brother - no sisters. I have two step-brothers, a brother, and a half-brother- no sisters. When my daughter was born, she was the first granddaughter - there were already five grandsons. Since then, three more grands have been added - only one other girl. We used to joke that the only way to get a girl in our family was to marry one. (and my step-mom isn't exactly a girlie-girl)
Me and Robin (in that order) |
I think that's probably why I am so close with my girlfriends. Always have been. Robin, who became my friend in third grade and who I still keep in contact with. Terri, my step-brother's girlfriend (and eventually wife), who was my "sis" even before she became my sister-in-law. My dear prayer group sisters (Ann, Patty, Sharon, Amy, and Gesselle), who have taken up a huge space in my heart. And several others.
And, of course, my jewely sisters (who I'm thinking most of you have heard about here). Peejers. LaLee. Hally. Sawa. Vonnie. Sunny. Beffy. DeeQ. These ladies have permanent homes in my heart.
So, even though the Lord didn't give me any "blood sisters," He certainly blessed me, beyond belief, with my wonderful soul sisters.
Thanks for reading! Be sure to stop by Ordinary Lives for more S posts :)

Tired and Weary?
AND now, we'll also be discussing the devotional - and thoughts about it - at Living By Grace.
And here's today's verse:
Do you not know?Looking forward to your thoughts. Mine are below.
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. Isaiah 40:28
**
I dozed off yesterday. During adult Sunday School. I was sitting quite close to the teacher, too. Not sure if he noticed or not (though I think he might have, since he asked me a question just as I was about to doze off - or maybe it was just as I was waking up. Not sure LOL). My husband did, however, and he tapped me on the side to bring me back from lala land to reality. So I missed a bit of the lesson.
Photo from sxc.hu |
These are normal things for me. They happen all the time. And I'm not alone. (Maybe? Humor me here, eh?) Due to the simple fact that we are human, tiredness and weariness are normal - a part of our normal lives (though, of course, I wish the tiredness would stop hitting me in church :::roll::: ).
It is at times like these when I praise God that He is NOT that way. Our God is everlasting. He never began and will never end. He doesn't dose off when we're chatting with Him. He will not grow weary when we spend months, or years, working on the same issue. He's always there beside us, keeping His eyes on us.
It's such a comfort to know that no matter how often I fall asleep on the job, or grow weary of the tasks the Lord has for me, He neither slumbers nor sleeps. He's always working.

Monday Manna for September 26 - New Verse
The purpose of Monday Manna to get together and get to know Christ more through His Word. The following Monday, those participating will post their thoughts on the verse at their own blogs and link up at the bottom of the post in the Mr. Linky gadget. The main purpose is to chew on the same Scripture and learn from one another.

If I Could Only Read Ten Blogs...
Welcome to week EIGHTEEN of my dear, dear friend Patty Wysong's From A 2 Z 4 U and me. We're working through the alphabet - one letter each Tuesday. No rules, other than your post has to relate to the letter of the week. Link up at Ordinary Lives and check out everyone else's post. Click on the graphic above for more details, and stop by Patty's blog on Tuesday or later to link up.Most of you know I follow close to 100 blogs (just FYI, several of these don't post even once a week - but still!) and try to read most, if not all, of the posts. I don't always succeed, but generally, I at least scan them all. Why? Because it blesses me. And because I get to pick favorites for YOU and share them on Finds for Fridays. And it may (or may not) take nearly as long as you might thing. (For some tips on google reader, the tool I use to read the blogs, check out this post by my buddy Patty Wysong.)
But I know I'm unique, and many of you aren't able to make it through a long list of blogs on a regular basis. So maybe you need an abbreviated list. So, with fear and trepidation, I'm going to try to do just that.
So, if I COULD only read ten blogs, here's my list (which was very, VERY hard to put together):
Craft blogs:
The Writers Alley - This is a group blog, with ten up-and-coming Christian authors. They write about technique, tips, and all sorts of things you need to be a better writer. And it's an EASY and often fun read.
Seekerville - Another group blog - with fifteen published Christian romance authors. They have TONS of giveaways, guest posts, and amazing, amazing insight into the publishing world. And they're FUNNY. And don't miss the comments - part of the fun!
Books & Such Literary - I follow several agent/agency blogs, but this one is probably my favorite. Their posts are in-depth, themed, and very helpful.
Writing Roseanna - I've become a big fan of author Roseanna White, and though I ADORE her books, her blog is a big reason. She's personable and has a way of bringing us into the writing world. She talks about latest reads, interesting words, historical eras, etc. Great stuff.
(oh, and I need to mention that there's one blog that I didn't put on this "Craft blog" list that you all should read. And that's the FaithWriters blog. The only reason it's not on here is...well, I write it. So why do I need to read it if I WRITE it? LOL so YOU read it, K?)
Devotional/Encouragement Blogs
Jewels of Encouragement - A bunch of amazing women (FaithWriters all!) sharing their hearts and love of the Lord, and the lessons they've learned. I'm blessed EVERY day.
Internet Cafe Devotions - Another bunch of amazing women sharing how God works in their lives daily - and some bonus "practical" posts on other things.
Ordinary Lives - And NOT just because the blogger and I share a brain. Patty's devotionals always speak to me, plus her a2z meme, as well as her series "Reading to Write Right" and "Blog Tips and Tricks" help me in countless ways. NOT just a devotional blog.
Peace for the Journey - Elaine has an amazing heart for God, a passion for His Word, and an honesty you won't find most anywhere else. It has been amazing to read along on her journey. If you join with me, you will also be blessed.
Miscellaneous - "just for fun" blogs
One Hundred Words - The amazing Jan Ackerson has created this extremely unique blog, where she tells a story, develops a character, or does something else amazing - in 100 words. No more. No less. And it's always fascinating and often fun/funny. (And it doesn't take long to read!)
Connecting Now -Lisa and Maddie Mikitarian giving out quirky, fun, silly, and crazy advice to just about anyone willing to write in. Almost always get a laugh there - or some food for thought. Just what I need after reading those craft and devotional blogs. And DON'T miss the comments - tons of fun there too!
So, there they are! My Blog reading recommendations for you. (This really WAS painful. And there is NO WAY I'm going to stick to just these 10 blogs. I'm addicted! :) )
Pop on over to Peejers' blog for more R posts - and write one up yourself!

Casting the Right Way
This week, Vonnie is hosting Monday Manna, so be sure to pop over to My Back Door and read the other entries, and link up if you want to participate. And we're also discussing this post at Living By Grace today. Would love to have you join the discussion there!
Today's verse is from from one of the New Testament epistles.
Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7I'm not much of a fisherman. I remember being younger, visiting my great-aunt and great-uncle in Acapulco, Mexico, and them taking me fishing for the very first time. I was probably five or six. I don't think I caught anything, but that wasn't the point. It was fun. And adventure. And I learned (sort of) how to use a fishing pole.
Photo from sxc.hu |
So you can imagine my issues when I applied this definition of "cast" to today's verse. I stuck my worries on the end of a fishing pole and threw them out into the lake of the Lord's promises. But after a while, I got tired of waiting for answers, so I reeled them right back in.
And it did me not a bit of good. Because those anxieties hadn't unhooked. They came right back onto the shore, and settled back, nice and comfy, in my heart again. And it was as if they'd never left me in the first place.
Thankfully, that's not the type of casting Peter, or the Lord, speaks of here. The Lord loves us so much that He wants us to take each of our concerns, all our worries, every care, and give them to Him. For good. No reeling them back in. He can handle them MUCH better than we can.
Thanks for reading! Be sure to stop by Vonnie's blog for more Monday Manna - and join me for discussion at Living By Grace.

As Of Late: September 15, 2011
I'm smiling. :) Why, you ask? Because it's time for one of my favorite memes, As Of Late. I enjoy writing it up - but more, l love reading others' posts and seeing what THEY are up to.
This monthly meme shows up on the third Thursday of the month. It's an opportunity to look back on the past month and see what you've been up to lately - and share it with blogdom. Stop by Christy's blog and check out her post, link up at the bottom, and read others' posts as well. Just plain fun!
And it's MY turn. :)
Lately, I've been seeing the light at the end of at least SOME of my tunnels.
Lately, quiet is not quite as rare, but still just as precious.
Lately, I'm so glad I'm part of Living By Grace
Lately, I'm tired.
Lately, I'm adjusting to the fall schedule.
Lately, I'm reading in Isaiah, and absolutely LOVING it (as usual).
Lately, this book is totally wowing, and teaching, me.
Lately, I'm astounded at how fast my kids are growing up.
Lately, I'm savoring moments with my husband.
So, what's going on with YOU as of late?
Be sure to stop by Christy's blog and join in - AND read others' "as of lates."

Q is for...
Welcome to week SEVENTEEN of my dear, dear friend Patty Wysong's From A 2 Z 4 U and me. We're working through the alphabet - one letter each Tuesday. No rules, other than your post has to relate to the letter of the week. Link up at Ordinary Lives and check out everyone else's post. Click on the graphic above for more details, and stop by Patty's blog on Tuesday or later to link up.You know, I thought Q was going to be a HARD letter for me. But I actually had several ideas come to mind, all of which seemed to fit me to a "t" (but of course, T doesn't come around for another three weeks :::r::: ). So, I'll talk a bit about each of them.
Q is for QUICK: Anyone who saw me at the FaithWriters Conference (or just about anywhere else, for that matter), knows I don't have a "slow" speed. I do most everything fast. I move fast. I talk fast. I think fast. I probably even sleep fast (Peej? Marc?). I jump from one thing to another. I am, in a word, QUICK.
Q is also for QUIET: No - I am not a quiet person in general (though my hubby often tells me he can't hear me when I turn my face from him and talk. How dare he, eh?? LOL). But lately, I have been absolutely, positively craving it. Could it be because I just came out of a summer full of kids home and, um, noisy most of the time? Because the television is on more than off here during waking hours? Because I'm more productive when I don't have noise around me? Maybe...
And finally (I think) Q is for QUESTION: Partly because I asked a bunch of them in the last paragraph. Partly because I've found it's a GREAT way to encourage folks to comment on your blog. And partly because my 7- and 10-year-olds are both FULL of them. And that's good - cuz that's the only way we're gonna get answers.
Thanks for reading! Be sure to stop by Ordinary Lives for more thoughts on the letter Q.
Which of these Qs appeals most to YOU?

Credited Gifts
AND now, we'll also be discussing the devotional - and thoughts about it - at Living By Grace.
And here's the verse for today:
Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account. Philippians 4:17Looking forward to your thoughts, both on your blogs and at Living By Grace. My thoughts are below.
***
Several years ago, I went through a period of time when I needed help. A lot of it. I was six months pregnant. I had a very active toddler. And we'd just found out my husband had a brain tumor. We had no family in the immediate area - my parents were five hours away by plane, and his an hour and a half by car.
People drove Marc to appointments, stayed with him while I shopped, brought us meals, cleaned our house. They watched my son while I gave birth. They sifted the litterbox. They gave us gifts that we couldn't have made it without.
But they weren't just doing it for me. Our gratitude was not their only reward. And we certainly weren't the only Ones noticing.God noticed when Marilyn Leali brought countless meals. He knew each time Bill Wesenick drove Marc to doctor's appointments. He paid attention when Jeanne Postma gave me a well-needed hug. Each time Barb Sluys organized all the help we got during that time, the Lord took note, and "credited their account."
And I'm so glad, because I can't possibly thank them enough. I'll use their giving hearts as an example to myself, and leave the "adequate reward" to the Lord of the universe.

Ten Years
There are some pictures I still can't look at without choking up, without mourning. Without forgetting Who is in control. But no matter what I remember, it's still true. He is sovereign of our days and nights. Of our blessings and curses. Of good and evil. And we rejoice in all he has done over the last decade. May we NEVER forget the reason for Patriot Day.
Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. Habakkuk 3:17-18.

Introducing: Living By Grace
I know I'm not the only one who at least likes Facebook (and yeah, I realize that some folks don't - but gimme a listen anyway, eh?). And many of you love it. Well, I want to tell you about an exciting new venture that I'm going to be involved in over there, starting this coming Monday.
Living by Grace is a Facebook faith community where believers, seekers, and inquiring minds can pop in and out for a snippet of truth and a friendly chat. Each week, five other authors and I will post links to inspiring, challenging, or thought provoking articles which will serve as discussion launchers. It’s a time to connect and be renewed and we invite you to join us.

Who will be involved? Several of my old and new favorite bloggers and friends. Some you'll recognize - some you won't. But you'll love every one of them! (click on their names to go to their blogs)
Each of us will be posting a devotional-like post on our blogs on "our day" (Monday through Saturday - I'll be covering Monday, and combining this with Monday Manna) - then we'll link to the post at the Facebook group with a discussion starter. And then we'll, well, discuss :). What a great way to share His Word and build a community, don't you think?
The page is up now: please stop by and "like" it and introduce yourself. The "official" discussion will start Monday, September 12.
So, what do you think? Will you join us? Hope to see you there!

Not Lounging About, But...
I AM away from the computer today on my monthly tech fast. But I will NOT be sitting around twiddling my thumbs.
Not only do my kids start back to school today, but it's the first session of my church's ladies' Bible study for the fall. We're doing a Juanita Purcell study about contentment (and BOY do I need it!). AND, my house is a mess. Hopefully, by the time I'm back, it will be at least A BIT less so. (And..P is for pretty busy - be back for the next letter!)
Enjoy your day - and I'll see you Wednesday!

Like Children - Monday Manna
The purpose of Monday Manna to get together and get to know Christ more through His Word. Each Thursday, a Bible verse to ponder will be posted, either here or at my dear friend Vonnie's blog, My Back Door. The following Monday, those participating will post their thoughts on the verse at their own blogs and link up at the bottom of the post in the Mr. Linky gadget. The main purpose is to chew on the same Scripture and learn from one another.
I'm hosting this week. And here's the verse.
Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Ephesians 5:1 The MessageLooking forward to your thoughts. Mine are below.
**
It's amazing to watch as my kids grow up. Sure, they're each developing their own unique personalities, but I see so many ways they are like me and my husband. And these aren't necessarily things we've taught them.
My daughter takes a while to wake up. She's not one to pop out of bed and get dressed. She'd rather lounge around in her PJs. In that way, she's very much like her father.
My son, on the other hand, is a quick riser, and will often stand almost before he wakes up (well, that MIGHT be an exaggeration, but still). He's ready to take on the day quite soon after he opens his eyes. Just like (you guessed it!) his mother.
There are several other ways the kids are like us, but I think you get the idea. Like I said, we didn't teach the kids to be this way - they picked them up perhaps by nature, and perhaps by observation. You could say they "take after" their parents.
And that is exactly what God is asking us to do in this verse. Do what God does. Imitate Him. Mimic His actions. To take after Him. Because we love Him, we read His Word and learn what He is like. And we do it. Just like the kids "take after" us, and do what we do.
